The Farm

History

Riverland Farm was started in 1997 by Scott Reed and Ferdene Chin-yee on 5 + acres of river bottom soil just behind the house they had purchased from the Mieczkowski Family. The Mieczkowski family used the land to grow asparagus. Scott and Ferdene ran a small CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) and had a tent in their yard where they distributed vegetables to their members in the earlier years. In 1998-99 they built the farmCSA distribution/ farm stand building and parking lot just north of their house and expanded their farming operation and CSA membership. They later added, through grant funding, tax and energy credits, and money generated from the farm, a photovoltaic (PV)electrical generation system. This was in an effort to help with operating costs and reduce the ecological impact. For 9 years Scott and worked the soil growing beautiful organic vegetables for many families and friends making Riverland Farm what it is today.

In 2007 Rob Lynch and Meghan Arquin leased the farm from Scott and Ferdene as well as an additional 12 acres across the road and ran the Riverland Farm business. They expanded the CSA membership and wholesale accounts in an effort to bring good, local, organic vegetables to more people. In the winter of 2008 Meghan and Rob bought the 13 acres of land and farmhouse across from the original farm as well as the Riverland Farm business and continue to lease the original farmland from Scott and Ferdene.

The mission of Riverland Farm is to continue to bring high quality, fresh organic vegetables to our community at an affordable price. We enjoy developing a relationship with our members so they feel that Riverland Farm is their farm too. There is something special about becomming part of the landscape that provides your food and knowing the farmers that tend the crops for you.

We would like to extend a heartfelt thanks and endless gratitude to our parents Agnes and Richard Lynch and Linda and Peter Arquin without whom none of this would be possible for us. Thanks for encouraging our dreams.
